Every piece we make carries a care label sewn into the inside seam. The notes below explain why those instructions look the way they do — and what we'd ask of you to keep a piece for many seasons.
Silk & silk blends
- Hand wash in cool water (no warmer than 30°C) with a mild, pH-neutral detergent — or use a delicate cycle inside a mesh laundry bag
- Do not wring; press the water out gently between two clean towels
- Lay flat to dry, away from direct sunlight — silk fades and weakens in the sun
- Iron on the lowest setting, on the wrong side, while slightly damp
- Store hanging in a breathable cotton garment bag, not plastic
Linen
- Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, separately from rough fabrics
- Avoid bleach and fabric softener — both break down the fibre over time
- Air dry, ideally on a flat surface or a wide hanger
- Linen wrinkles by nature — embrace it, or steam rather than iron for a softer finish
- Iron while damp on a medium-hot setting if a crisper look is preferred
Cotton
- Machine wash cold; wash inside-out to protect prints and embroidery
- Tumble dry on low or — better — line dry to keep the cut
- Iron on a medium setting; steam for embroidered or smocked sections
- Wash with similar colours for the first two washes
Viscose, modal & cupro
- Hand wash or use a delicate cycle in cool water inside a mesh bag
- Never wring — these fibres lose strength when wet
- Reshape and lay flat to dry; hanging while wet stretches the garment
- Iron on low with a press cloth in between
Lace, embroidery & beadwork
- Hand wash only, in cool water, with the piece turned inside out
- Lay flat to dry; never hang dripping pieces with heavy embellishment
- Iron only on the back, with a press cloth, avoiding any beaded sections
- For pieces with significant beadwork or hand embroidery, professional dry cleaning is recommended
Knitwear
- Hand wash in cool water with wool-safe detergent, or use the wool cycle on your machine
- Reshape while wet and dry flat — hanging will stretch the shoulders permanently
- Store folded, not hung, with a cotton sachet of lavender or cedar to deter moths
- Pilling is normal in the first weeks; use a cashmere comb gently and the fabric will settle
General notes
- Always check the care label — it overrides any general guide
- Spot-clean small marks before they set; warm water for sweat, cold water for food and wine
- Air a piece for a few hours before washing — it often refreshes a worn garment more than a wash would
- Store everything in a dry, ventilated place; humidity damages natural fibres faster than light wear
